hi guys. when i am in a dialog box with jaws, the speach just stops. a good example of this is when i am in the open file dialog box. when i am trying to change the focus to another drive or folder, jfw just stops responding. any idea what is going on here? running jfw 5.1 under xp home s2.

You might want to try to run a repair.

makes no difference. the problem has been ongoing throughout jfw 4.5 upwards.

It always works for me. I'm using jaws five.o, with xp, and it always works, sorry if I'm not much help, but...

I have no idea what could be happening here. As Alison said, I have never once had a similar problem with JFW in a dialogue.

Does this ahppen in all dialog boxes or only the dialog boxes in a certain application?
If you hit alt-tab to get into another window will it read the contents of that window properly, if you hit alt-tab again to go back to the dialog box, will it read its contents now, can you read the contents with the Jaws cursor? I've ha occasional problems with those but not consistently.

no that doesn't make a difference. i don't see this problem on other computers though. could it be the graphics card?

well it could be since there are some incompatible graphic cards with jfw. Also, your computer may be dirty or undefrag. Check the disk and registry, if necesary clean it. I have that problem with flopies or in windows explorer since the driver opens for you automatically which slows down the reading of jfw.
